Scotland and The Orkney Islands 2019-05

overview map Orkney trek

May 2019, a trek to Scotland and The Orkney Islands to visit the major historic sites.

Summary of our motorhome journey through Scotland and The Orkneys

During May 2019 we travelled north from home through Scotland heading for The Orkney islands. Neither of us had visited The Orkneys previously, so we were not sure what to expect. As usual we travelled in our Hymer B544 Premiumline motorhome.

Overall statistics for the motorhome journey; we travelled 1,090 miles, spending over 31 hours travelling at an average speed of 34 miles per hour and achieved an overall fuel consumption of 29.3 miles per UK gallon or 10.37 litres per 100 km on diesel. In the next paragraphs are the lists of places we visited in Scotland and then The Orkney Islands. A detailed itinerary and description of places we visited and the places we stayed overnight is given on the pages that follow, with a small inset map that shows the route we took. You can jump directly to each location using the links below and then move backwards and forwards through the trek using the Next and Prev links at the bottom of each page.

Normally we don't stay on campsites, unless there is no alternative. We have spent many nights in off-road locations around Europe, as this website increases in size we hope to provide details of exactly where we stayed and a review of each place whether it's an organised site or something else. What that usually means is that we book a night or two for when we arrive in a country or place although we do research our motorhome destinations thoroughly before leaving home.
