Coffee in bed, the Hymer's skylight is covered in heavy frost, our elevation here is 490 metres so maybe that's to be expected. There are two sets of church bells that strike the hours, but they strike several minutes apart, maybe both of them are wrong. We have breakfast, a man in a small car arrives, turns on the water and departs without saying a word of even seeming to notice that we are there. After breakfast we service the Hymer, empty grey water and cassette, fill up with fresh water. Then without ceremony we set off, I drove the first shift, 2 hours across fairly flat terrain, mostly dead straight road. We saw a lot of toll roads and passed through vast areas of land covered by kiwi fruit vines and various other fruit trees. The outside temperature rose to 20C, we had difficulty finding a place to stop so we drove on.
We are meeting a group of English Folk Dancers to perform in a folk festival. Gill received a message to say that the arrangements have been changed. The original plan was to stay in a hotel for 5 nights, so we had carefully researched the area and found places where we could park the Hymer close to the hotel. We now find that the hotel has been changed, so we have to idea where we are going to park. We arrive in Sanremo, which is like Blackpool with a warmer climate, full of small hotels, overdeveloped and full of dreadful drivers who seem to take advantage of their powerful cars at every opportunity. The only saving grace is that we are here before all the parking restrictions come into force at the start of April. During the holiday season it must be a nightmare trying to park, and the costs are very high.
Our immediate problem is to find somewhere to park the Hymer, not an easy thing on account of its size and the narrow streets around the hotel. Another major consideration is security - we really don't like leaving our motorhome parked somewhere out of sight. After a lot of searching we find a space on a quiet road about 5 minutes walk away from our hotel. One of our fellow dancers is more fortunate and finds a space on the same road as the hotel. We stay in the hotel for 5 nights, but visit the Hymer morning and evening to check it is still there. After a couple of days a space becomes available on the same road as the hotel, so we move the Hymer and feel much better about the location because we can check things much more easily.
We spend 5 nights in the hotel.
